About Us

Australian Art Auction Records is a service that documents historical art auction results and makes them available via subscription.

The service was commenced in the early 1970's by Ted Craig. Born in Toowoomba, Queensland in 1946, Ted Grew up in the Warwick and Toowoomba areas. He first became involved in auctioneering industry in 1968. After several years in Asia, Europe and Africa, he returned to Sydney to join one of the larger auctioneering companies as an auctioneer and valuer. After some years as manager of its arts department, he resigned to found Australian Art Auctions, a company specialising in the valuation and sale by auction of works of art. Based in Sydney, Ted travels extensively throughout Australia and overseas undertaking valuations. Ted conducts regular art auctions in Sydney.

Until 2004 the results have been available by hardcopy publication and CD. From the first edition in 1975 the book was published every third year and, since volume 6 (1987) every second year. This allows the book to give an up to date review of the art market. The CD has been published each year since 1997 and contains all art auction records since the service commenced in the early 1970's.

With the significant growth of the internet over the last few years Ted joined forces with Jarrod McGrath in 2004 to create an on-line subscription service to Australian Art Auction Records.

Jarrod began working extensively in the computing industry in the early 1990's. Born in Bathurst, New South Wales in 1970, Jarrod grew up in the Central West of the state. Jarrod first became commercially involved with computers after completing an Honors degree in Mathematics and Computing at Charles Sturt University. Jarrod moved from Bathurst to Sydney in the early 1990's and since that time has worked mainly with large corporate companies; initially as a programmer and over more recent times as a project manager. Jarrod brings to Australian Art Auction Records approx 15 years commercial computing experience and his background is suited to bring publications such as this on-line. Jarrod runs his own Information Technology consulting company artvirtual.

Ted and Jarrod hope you find this service easy to use, convenient and beneficial to review historical art auction results.
