Born in Adelaide in 1875, Herbert Babbage moved to New Zealand as a child. He studied at Wanganui Technical College and under the artist D E Hutton. He studied in London and Paris from 1904, returning to New Zealand about 1909 where he exhibited in Wellington, Wanganui and New Plymouth. Babbage died in 1916 while serving in World War I. His work is represented in the Hocken Library, and a collection of watercolours is in the Turnbull Library. Edit or add to this biography
