Biographical Information

Robert Ingram Downie was born in Scotland where his family were farming. When his father died in 1890 the family moved to Aberdeen in order to complete the children's education.

He was a master cabinet maker by trade and spent much of his leisure time pursuing his love of painting. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1906 and remained there until 1914 when he returned to Britain via Canada and the USA, painting at his stops in these countries. Edit or add to this biography
