Biographical Information

Robert Hoddle, sketcher and surveyor, was born in London and arrived in Sydney in 1823. By 1837 he was senior surveyor for the Port Phillip district and, after separation in 1850, became Victoria's first Surveyor-General. The layout of Melbourne's city streets is attributed to him. Hoddle also travelled widely in New South Wales. Edit or add to this biography
