Biographical Information

Born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1864, William Baker was an upholsterer who became a professional artist around the turn of the century. A self taught artist, he painted in oils until 1902, when he began using watercolours as well. His first exhibition was with the Fine Arts Association in 1883, and included in the St Louis Exposition in the USA in 1904. Baker's work is represented in a number of public collections in New Zealand, including the Hocken Library. Baker died in 1929. Edit or add to this biography
