William Alexander (Bill) Sutton (1917-2000) New Zealand

Biographical Information

Born in Christchurch in 1917, William Sutton studied in Christchurch from 1934-38 and at the Anglo-French Art Centre in London.

Well known as a versatile artist, he held a retrospective exhibition in Christchurch in 1973.

Sutton served on the council of the Canterbury Society of Arts and lectured at the Canterbury School of Art. His work is represented in major art galleries in New Zealand.
