William Elijah Sheils (c1885-1975) Australia

Biographical Information

William Elijah Sheils was born in Melbourne in the late 1800s. He was from a large family and was raised around the inner city Brunswick area.

He was a self taught artist who painted in oils and watercolours, and also drew with pen and ink. He would be inspired to paint and draw from something he had seen and then produce copious works of the subject using all mediums until he was satisfied.

His watercolours inspired by his time in Egypt during the Second World War are beautiful as are his oils inspired by the Australian bush.

He lived a long and productive life painting, teaching and exhibiting from his base in North Balwyn

He died in June 1975 aged around 90. Edit or add to this biography
