Christine Ross (1944-.) Australia

Biographical Information

Christine Ross (married name Sanders) was born in Newcastle N.S.W. in 1944 and graduated in painting from the National Art School Sydney in 1966.

She was art critic for the Newcastle Herald and ABC radio in the 1970s and inaugural artist in residence at the South Australian School of Art in 1983.

She has exhibited widely in Australia and also worked overseas with a studio in Britain in 1979. Her work is represented in both public and private collections in Australia and overseas some of which include Newcastle Art Galley, Maitland Art Gallery, the Dobell Foundation, Telstra Collection, Art Bank and the Universities of Newcastle, New England, South Australia and ANU as well as numerous city collections in N.S.W. and Victoria. She was represented by the Von Bertouch Galleries Newcastle.

Christine was a senior lecturer in painting and Natural History Illustration at the University of Newcastle until 2006 and continues as an honorary lecturer at the university.

Christine has also received numerous awards and grants for her art and appears in a number of Australian Art publications. She continues her art practice in her waterfront studio on Lake Macquarie N.S.W. Edit or add to this biography
