Biographical Information

Born in Victoria in 1922, Middleton studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne under William Rowell. He also studied privately with Septimus Power. Power was both a mentor and a friend who strongly influenced Max's career. His first solo exhibition was in 1946 and over his lifetime he held 60 exhibtions throughout Australia.In the early 1950s he painted for two years in Europe and studied in London and Paris.He is principally a landscape painter, but also chose other diverse subjects. He has won several awards and his works are represented in the Queensland State Gallery and provincial collections including Benalla, Castlemaine and Bendigo. He died at the age of 90 in Melbourne in 2013. Edit or add to this biography
