Herbert Hepburn Calvert (1870-1923) Australia

Biographical Information

A watercolour artist who painted in New South Wales early in the 20th century, Calvert is best known for his bird studies, frequently on a larger scale than Neville Cayley's. His work is represented in the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

The works of Herbert Hepburn Calvert (1870-1923) are often confused with thse of his son, Harold Hepburn Calvert (1906-63) due to the similarity in names and styles.

Dates and signatures, however, greatly assist in correct identification. Paintings dated after 1923 are the work of the son and often signed 'H. Hep. Calvert' or 'H. Hepburn Calvert'(Stephen Marshall) Edit or add to this biography
