Biographical Information

Born in Broken Hill in 1958, Dean Vella trained as an engineer. A self-taught painter and sculptor, he moved to Cairns in 1987 where he founded the Landmark Gallery. He has exhibited widely throughout Australia.Born in Broken Hill in 1958, Dean Vella trained as an automotive engineer.

A self-taught artist, predominatley a painter, he moved to Cairns in 1987 where he founded the Landmark Art Gallery.

He has exhibited widely through Australia , Asia & USA. In 1998 saw an acquisition of a major work from his "Wind in the Willows" Series by Guangdong Museum of Art, Guangzhou, China. This was the First western painting placed in this collection. He then went on in 2003 to his First Museum Exhibition - "Power of the Earth" by invitation at The Guangdong Museum of Art. This Exhibition was officially recognized by The National Gallery of Australia, Canberra and recorded in the Museums Archives.

In 1999 he was Listed in "Australia’s 50 Most Collectable Artists" - Australian Art Collector, Issue 7. He has, in 2005, won the Contemporary Art Prize- Central Coast Festival of Arts. NSW, and Won the Contemporary Art Section of the 34th Annual Ivanhoe Art Show, NSW. Edit or add to this biography
