Desiderius Orban (1884-1986) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Hungary in 1884, Orban came to Sydney in 1919. He founded the Orban School, in which the role of creative imagination in the practice of art was given first place. Orban's richly coloured low-toned paintings, thoroughly Hungarian in feeling, matched the spirit of the new Sydney romantic school. In the 1960s Orban's work began to reflect the influences of Eastern philosophies. His work is represented in galleries in Budapest and in several state and provincial galleries. Desiderius Orban died in 1986. Edit or add to this biography
