Biographical Information

Born Eleanor Adams in Otago, New Zealand in 1876, Ella Spicer studied painting under Fanny Wimperis and Girolamo Nerli. She moved to Wellington and married in 1907. Mainly known for her watercolours, she exhibited with the Otago Art Society from 1894 to 1900, and with the Auckland Society of Arts from 1907. Ella Spicer was mother of Auckland watercolourist Peggy Spicer. She died in 1956. Her work is represented in the Turnbull and Hocken libraries. Edit or add to this biography
