Akio Makigawa (1948-99) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Japan in 1948 Akia Makigawa arrived in Australia in 1948.

He studied in Japan, Curtin University and Victorian College of the Arts.

A sculptor and installation artist he has exhibited in solo and group shows throughout Australia. His work is represented in several state and regional collections. Makigawa "wrote haiku with objects" - some of the best examples of this ideas can be seen at the International Departure Lounge of the Melbourne Airport.
