George Alexander Elmslie (c1919-84) Australia

Biographical Information

George Elmslie showed artistic ability from an early age winning art competitions in his teens.

After leaving school, he worked in Sydney for a while as a commercial graphic artist and his commisions included painting the walls of The Court House Hotel in Taylor Square, Oxford Street.

He served in World War II as a pilot, and also enjoyed rowing and ballet (as a participant).

He travelled and painted extensively throughout Australia, including the outback mining towns, and in his final years worked for Angus & Robertson book publishers. Edit or add to this biography
