George Callaghan Hamilton (1812-83) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in England in 1812, George Hamilton arrived in Australia in 1833. A painter of bush and sporting subjects, his illustrations were published in the Journals of both Grey and Eyre. He also published three volumes of his own works. A foundation member of the Adelaide Club, he became South Australian Police Commissioner in 1867. He retired from this post in 1883.
