George Edwards Peacock (1806-?1890) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in England in 1806, Peacock was a London attorney when, in 1836, he was convicted of forging a signature on a power of attorney and sentenced to transportation for life. Following an unhappy period in Port Macquarie he received a conditional pardon in 1846. He remained in Australia, working as a meterorologist until 1856. During this period and up to the late 1880s he painted in the Sydney area, usually harbour and topographical views, and often painted on copper. Peacock's work is represented in the National Collection, Canberra and in the Mitchell Library in Sydney. Edit or add to this biography
