George Pitt Morison (1861-1946) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Melbourne in 1861, George Morison studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School and in Paris. He worked in a photographic studio in Melbourne and at weekends joined the Heidelberg School painters. In 1894 he moved to Western Australia where he worked as manager of a photographic studio, gold prospector and draughtsman. In 1906 he joined the Museum and Art Gallery, eventually becoming curator in 1922. Morison painted 'The Foundation of Perth' for the centenary celebrations in 1929 and designed the centenary stamp. He died in Melbourne in 1946. His work is represented in the Art Gallery of Western Australia Edit or add to this biography
