Albin Martin (1813-88) New Zealand

Biographical Information

Born in the United Kingdom in 1813, Albin Martin studied in England, working in Italy before migrating to New Zealand with his family in 1851. He began farming at Tamaki near Auckland and moved to Ellerslie in 1882. Albin painted in oils and watercolours and his work is represented in the Auckland City Art Gallery, Turnbull libraries and in the New Zealand and Australian national galleries. He died in 1888.
