Hugh Scott (1869-1944) New Zealand

Biographical Information

Born in England in 1869, Hugh Scott studied widely in Europe prior to his arrival in New Zealand in 1904. A painter and teacher he was a director of Suter Gallery and taught in the Nelson area.

He had one daughter from his marraige to Leilah Marie Davies, Norah Ysuelt Scott, an image of her at 18 years old is held by the Auckland Art Gallery. He was a early mentor to Toss Woollaston and Margory Naylor from the Nelson area
