Isobel (Iso) Rae (1860-1940) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Collingwood, Melbourne in 1860, Iso Rae studied at the School of Fine Arts at the National Gallery of Victoria.

With her sister, Alison, who was also a painter, she established life classes with the Victorian Art Society in Melbourne.

In 1887 Rae left Melbourne with her mother and sister bound for Paris, and the company of other Australian artists living and working in Paris. She studied at the Academie Colarossii and came under the influence of Rupert Bunny, Marie Tuck, Tudor St. George and E. Phillips Fox.

The rae family travelled to Etaples for the summer in 1890 and moved there pemanently in 1893,

Isobel Rae continued to paint and exhibit at Le Toquet.

The family left Etaples for Englean in 1934.
