Biographical Information

James Anderson arrived in Victoria in the 1850's. He was on the committee that organised the 1853 Victorian Fine Arts Exhibition.

A portrait painter he worked in Victoria and Sydney. Four of his portraits of the Gilbert Family are held at the NSW State Library: Gilbert Wright Snr (Bathurst solicitor), Jane Wright nee Kelson (Gilbert Snr mother), Gilbert Vaughn Wright Jr (eldest son), William Kelson Wright (second son).
