Biographical Information

Born in Scotland in 1831, James Moultray studied art at the Royal Institute in Edinburgh before becoming a picture restorer. He arrived in New Zealand in 1883 where he worked as a professional artist in Dunedin. He was the father of artists John Elder and Henry Moultray. James Moultray exhibited widely in New Zealand right up until his death in 1911. His work is represented in the Hocken Library. Edit or add to this biography
