Alice Marian Ellen Bale (1875-1955) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Victoria in 1876, Bale studied with May Vale and at the Melbourne National Gallery School under Fred McCubbin and Bernard Hall. She was an active member of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and the Victorian Artists Society. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, London in 1933 and at the Paris Salon in 1939. Bale died in 1955. Her work is widely represented in public collections and was the subject of a major retrospective exhibition at the Castlemaine Art Gallery in 1977. Edit or add to this biography
