John (Jack) Salvana (1873-1956) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Ironbark (now called Stuart Town) in NSW Australia in 1873, Salvana studied at the Royal Art Society School in Sydney and in London.

He is best known for his impressionistic landscapes, usually of the New South Wales coastal area. Salvana was awarded many art prizes, and his work is represented in several state and provincial collections.

He died in 1956 and is buried in Yarramalong Cemetery near the Central Coast city of Gosford NSW.

NB Some confusion about his birth place has been caused by the fact that Stuart Town is near Wellington NSW so that is the reason that from time to time his birth place has been listed as New Zealand. Refer to Tamworth Regional Gallery for confirmation Edit or add to this biography
