John Richard Passmore (1904-84) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Sydney in 1904, Passmore studied in Sydney under Julian Ashton and George Lambert, then in Europe. He returned to Sydney in 1950, his work showing the influences of Cezanne and Rembrandt. In 1959 he won the first Helena Rubinstein Travelling Scholarship and went back to Europe, but his health collapsed. He took little or no part in exhibitions until 1967. Passmore died in 1984. His work is represented in most state galleries. Edit or add to this biography
