Karl Feodor Sim (1923-2013) New Zealand

Biographical Information

Karl Feodor Sim became the first New Zealander to be convicted for art forgery. In 1985 he was arrested for art forgery after he copied and sold paintings and drawings by artists such as Charles F. Goldie, Rita Angus and Colin McCahon. He was fined $1,000 and required to undertake 200 hours of Community Service. After the court case he changed his name to Carl Feoodor Goldie so he could legally sign and sell paintings as "C. F. Goldie". As well as the three artists listed above, it is believed his forgeries extended to works by over 60 artists. Edit or add to this biography
