Ambrose McCarthy Patterson (1877-1967) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Victoria in 1877, Ambrose Patterson studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne Art School and in Paris. He returned to Australia in 1910 but left for the USA in 1917. In 1919 he was appointed Professor of Painting at the University of Washington State in Seattle. Except for a brief visit to Australia in the 1950s he lived in the USA until his death in 1967.
