Lenton Parr (1924-2003) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Melbourne in 1924, Lenton Parr served in the Royal Australian Airforce from 1943 until 1951 when he was invalided out with a protracted illness. He studied art at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and under Henry Moore. He became noted for his abstract sculptures in welded steel. He also taught art and became director of the Victorian College of Arts in 1974. Lenton Parr was awarded Member of the Order of Australia in 1978 for his services to the arts and sculpture. He died in 2003. His work is represented in the Australian National Gallery and in most state galleries. Edit or add to this biography
