Maxwell Spencer (Max) Dupain (1911-92) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Sydney in 1911, Max Dupain studied art in Sydney before working in a commercial photography studio. He opened his own studio in Sydney in 1934, and was holding solo exhibitions from 1930 in Australia and overseas. During World War II he was a camouflage officer in the RAAF, and later became a photographer with the Department of Information. He returned to his photographic career after the war, his focus spanning such fields as portraiture, landscape and architecture. In 1982 he was awarded the OBE. Dupain died in 1992. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia and most state galleries. Edit or add to this biography
