Norman MacGeorge (1872-1952) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Adelaide in 1872, MacGeorge studied at Adelaide's School of Design and then at the Melbourne National Art Gallery School. Later he studied in Britain and Europe. He lectured at Melbourne University Extension classes and was also a critic for the Melbourne 'Herald'. MacGeorge adopted a strongly avant-garde attitude and vigorously opposed Sir Robert Menzies' proposal for the institution of an Australian Academy of the Arts.
