Biographical Information

Norman Carter studied at the National Gallery School in the 1890's. His early work also reflects the influence of Phillips Fox, one of his teachers at the Melbourne Art School.

He began lecturing in architecture and art history at Sydney University in 1903 and continued in this position until the early 1930s. His painting, 'A Low Toned Harmony', which he sent from Australia to the Old Salon, Paris, in 1913 won a bronze medal and was exhibited at the Royal Academy the following year. He exhibited regularly with the Society of Artists and became Senior Vice President. Edit or add to this biography
