Biographical Information

Born in Ireland in 1834, Peter Power was the father of Harold Septimus Power. A hatter by trade, he arrived in Australia in 1852 to become a gold prospector at Ballarat. A self taught artist, Power painted romantic landscapes. He later married and sailed for New Zealand where he painted in the Dunedin area and exhibited with the Otago Art Society. He and his family returned to Melbourne in the late 1880s. Peter Power died some time between 1917 and 1920. Edit or add to this biography
