'The main force uniting modernist painters (in Sydney) was Ethel Anderson, who wrote articles supporting modern art, reviewed the artists' exhibitions, used her home to exhibit their work, and involved them together in projects. ' (Ref: Heather Johnson 'Roy De Maistre-The Australian Years 1891 1930', Craftsman House, 1988, p. 101) Anderson held exhibitions in her home 'Ball Green' at Turramurra She published poetry and fiction as well as writing about art. Her art reviews were published in Home Magazine. In 1927 she started the Turramurra Wall Painters Group which included Wakelin, De Maistre and others. All three worked on the modernist mural in the crypt of St James Church. Her oil paintings are extremely rare. Edit or add to this biography
