Born in Yorkshire Leake emigrated with his family to Van Diemen's Land in the 1820s. Though trained as a doctor his art became a professional sideline: one of his drawings was published in The Illustrated Australian Magazine of December 1850 (see Kerr J. (ed.) The Dictionary of Australian Artists Oxford University Press Melbourne 1992 p. 454). He lived at 'Rosedale' in Tasmania from 1840 to 1850. Edit or add to this biography
