Biographical Information

A New Zealand watercolourist and black and white illustrator, Thomas Cousins was born in England in 1840 and arrived in New Zealand in about 1863. He exhibited at the NZ Exhibition in Dunedin in 1865, and shortly afterwards moved to Victoria, where he illustrated Marcus Clarke's 'For the Term of his Natural Life'. Cousins was back in New Zealand by 1876 where he continued to work. He died in 1897. His work is represented in the Turnbull and Hocken collections and at Canterbury Museum Edit or add to this biography
