William Ernest Maurice Fletcher (1924-83) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in New South Wales in 1924, William Fletcher studied at East Sydney Technical College and at the Julian Ashton School. Best known for his paintings of Australian flora, he also painted figurative works and cityscapes. Over the years he changed his signatures from E Fletcher to Ernest Fletcher in the early works and to William Fletcher or just Fletcher in some of his later paintings. After his death in Sydney in 1983, a charitable trust was set up in his memory for the development and advancement of young artists. Edit or add to this biography
