Biographical Information

Born in France in 1803, Charles Costantini grew up in Paris. He moved to England where, in 1824 he was convicted of forgery and transported to Australia. He returned to England after being pardoned. He was again sentenced to transportation in 1827 and imprisoned at Macquarie Harbour, Van Diemens Land, where he was given a free certificate. He then advertised his willingness to paint portraits and landscapes. A number of his works are held by the State Library of Tasmania. Edit or add to this biography
