Biographical Information

Born in Albury, New South Wales in 1927, Backen studied at the Julian Ashton School in Sydney, and, after winning the New South Wales government travelling scholarship, in London and Paris. Backen returned to Australia in 1959, and was awarded the first prize in the National Graphic Arts exhibition in Sydney in 1960. Backen died in 2005. Edit or add to this biography
