Edith Cowlishaw (1924-.) Australia

Biographical Information

Edith Cowlishaw was born in Adelaide and was stongly influenced by an aunt Dora Featherstone who was a botanist and lover of Australian wildflowers .

This has translated into Edith's etchings of the Australian bush. She graduated B.Sc [Sydney University] and worked as an industrial chemist. She studied with the [then] Sydney Technical College by correspondence for ten years and subsequently at the Workshop Art Centre Willoughby.

She has had 30 solo exhibitions at Brisbane ,Newcastle , Maitland, Gosford, Sydney, Canberra, Hobart, several joint exhibitions and many mixed exhibitions. She is a member and exhibits annually with the Print Circle and is a member and former President of the Sydney Printmakers.

She has won prizes from nine regional centres and the Royal Easter Show. She is represented in the National Art gallery , the Japanese Royal family collection ,in Twin cities of Willoughby Art Centre in Korea and Japan and in many collections here and overseas. Edit or add to this biography
