Biographical Information

Frank Medworth was born in London in 1892 and studied at Camberwell, City and Guilds of London Institute, and the Royal College of Art. Following service with the British army in France and East Africa in 1914-19, he exhibited with the Royal Academy from 1923 to 1927 He taught at the Westminster School of Art, and was Head of the Drawing and Painting School at Hull College 1935-38. By the mid-twenties he developed an interest in modernism, which had a very influential effect on Australian art after his appointment as Head of the Art Department at East Sydney Technical College in 1939, a position he held until his death in 1947. Painter, teacher, printmaker, illustrator and writer, he is best known for his landscapes, portraits and still-life His work is in the collections of The British Museum Victoria and Albert Museum, British galleries at Leeds, Shiplay and Skipton, all major Australian art galleries, and the Australian War Memorial in Canberra Edit or add to this biography
