George William Evans (1780-1852) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in England in 1780, George William Evans arrived in Australia in 1802. He was a painter and surveyor - at one stage acting Surveyor General. He led an expedition across the Blue Mountains in 1813 and later accompanied John Oxley as surveyor, several of his sketches being used for illustrations in Oxley's Journals. He was granted 1000 acres of land in Tasmania and died in 1852. Edit or add to this biography
