Hal Missingham (1906-94) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Western Australia in 1906, Missingham studied extensively in Europe and Australia. Equally well known as painter and art administrator, Missingham lived, studied and taught in England prior to 1940, when he returned to Australia, organising the 'Australia at War' exhibition which toured widely in 1945. In the same year he was appointed director of the Art Gallery of NSW, in which position he organised many major exhibitions and a number of art prizes, including the Helena Rubinstein Prize. His works are represented in many state and provincial galleries. He died in 1994. Edit or add to this biography
