Henry James Johnstone (1835-1907) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in England in 1835, Johnstone came to Australia in 1853 and studied in Melbourne under Louis Buvelot. He established a photographic business (Johnstone O'Shannessy & Co) and painted in his free time. In 1880 he went to America and later to London, where he exhibited at the Royal Academy. In later years he specialised in small figure studies done in watercolour. He died in 1907. Edit or add to this biography
