James Carson Coleman (1920-76) Australia

Biographical Information

Born in Sydney in 1920, James Coleman studied at Sydney Art School, racing bicycles to earn prize money so he could pay for his art tuition.

In the 1960s he travelled to Western Australia, living out of a caravan with his second wife and family of six children, so he could paint the outback.

Paintings were sold in the evening in the towns he was visiting.

He was a member of the Royal Art Society.
