James Ranalph Jackson (1882-1975) Australia

Biographical Information

James Ranalph Jackson, painter and teacher, was born in Palmerston, New Zealand, 3 July, 1882 and arrived in Australia in 1894.

He studied in Sydney at the Royal Art Society School and in Melbourne at the National Gallery of Victoria School.

Travelling overseas, he undertook further study at Académie Colarossi in Paris, and in London under Frank Brangwyn.

He was a Foundation member of Australian Academy of Art and one of the first Fellows of Royal Art Society of N.S.W., and a teacher at the Royal Art Society School in Sydney.

He died in Sydney in 1975.
