John Douglas Perrett (1859-1937) New Zealand

Biographical Information

Born in Scotland in 1859, John Perrett studied in Glasgow and arrived in New Zealand in about 1886. He settled in Dunedin and along with G Nerli and L W Wilson, opened the Otago Art Academy in 1894. Perrett moved to Auckland the following year and taught painting there. He exhibited from 1887 and died in 1937. Perrett's work is represented in the Hocken Library and many galleries throughout New Zealand. Edit or add to this biography
