Judy Cassab (1920-2015) Australia

Biographical Information

Born Vienna 1920 to Hungarian parents, she was able to conceal her Jewish heritage and survived World War II. She migrated to Australia in 1951 with her husband (married 1939) and two sons, and lived in Sydney. She was twice the winner of the Archibald Prize and was also the recipient of the AO and the CBE. (The only other woman to win Archibald Prize was Nora Heysen.)

Judy Cassab is equally well known for her exotic colours in her abstract paintings, She was commissioned by the Orient Line to paint H.R.H. The Princess Alexandra for S. S. 'Oriana' and is represented State Galleries in Sydney and Perth.
