Meighan Ellis. New Zealand

Biographical Information

A photographic/video artist currently working in Auckland, New Zealand, Meighan works as a fine arts/design educator, where she lectures in photography, works on self-directed projects, editorial, portrait, and private commissions and more recently has moved into video production.

Previous to her current appointments she resided in London, Sydney and Tokyo where she wrote editorial and features for various international print/on-line publications, including Tokyo Art Beat.

Her current research and art practice investigates the axis of the photographic portrait and the still moving image which seeks to expand the stilled exposure, investigating the 'sitting' for a portrait by employing high definition video. This questions the status of the subject and the fixed photographic image- its limitations and bias in depicting an accurate and truthful representation and performance. Strands of this work have been exhibited in New Zealand, USA, Europe, Australia and Japan. Edit or add to this biography
